Western Antifa Activists Plan to Protest Again in Budapest This June for the "Budapest Case"

The criminal trial of far-left extremist Ravi Trux, accused of violent attacks in Budapest, will continue in June with six scheduled court dates at the Budapest Metropolitan Court. In February, German antifa activists staged a protest outside the courthouse, but in March, their demonstration was blocked by members of the Hungarian nationalist group Betyársereg (Outlaw Army). Now, far-left groups are once again recruiting online to mobilize for the upcoming hearings.
(Simeon Ravi Trux, also known as Maja Trux, a “non-binary” German antifa militant, was extradited for violent attacks in Budapest during the 2023 “Day of Honor,” underscoring the threat of foreign extremists targeting Hungary)
The Budapest Antifascist Solidarity Committee (BASC), a group dedicated to supporting the defendants involved in the 2023 antifa-led violent attacks in Hungary, published a call to action on its website at the end of April. The statement references court hearings scheduled between June 4 and June 20.
The Hungarian version of this call was shared on social media by Attila Vajnai, leader of a fringe Marxist group called "Workers' Party 2006." These posts urge supporters to gather at 7:00 AM on each court day (June 4, 6, 12, 18, and 20) in front of the courthouse in Budapest.
Not Their First Protest in Budapest
This wouldn't be the first time far-left activists have gathered in the city. On February 21, before Ravi Trux's initial court appearance, a few dozen antifa supporters, mostly foreigners, staged a protest on Markó Street, holding banners and chanting slogans. Attila Vajnai and his wife, Krisztina Noé, were also present at that event.
(Krisztina Noé is a Hungarian antifa activist. She and her husband, Attila Vajnai, manage several left-wing platforms, including the "Antifa Action Red Left" social media page and the news site "A Mi Időnk" ("Our Time"))
The next hearing took place on March 6. BASC again called for a protest, but this time the group didn't show up. The Betyársereg and members of HVIM (the Sixty-Four Counties Youth Movement), along with a few individuals from Légió Hungária, had already occupied the area in front of the courthouse. As a result, the Western antifa activists were forced to sneak into the building with little fanfare. HVIM later published a statement claiming they had managed to obtain the list of names of the foreign far-left activists traveling to Hungary.
A few days after the March hearing, BASC publicly boasted that Greek antifa militants had carried out a terrorist attack against the Hungarian ambassador's residence in Athens, throwing paint and flyers at the building. According to BASC, this was meant as an act of solidarity with Ravi Trux and the other defendants in what they refer to as the "Budapest case."
