Surveillance Scandal: Hidden Cameras and Microphones Were Placed in Légió Hungária Summer Camp

The movement has issued a statement reporting another Hungarian surveillance scandal, though this time it wasn't the spy software we've grown accustomed to in recent years that played the starring role, but rather "old-fashioned" methods. This time, microphones and cameras hidden in junction boxes and pipes were discovered at the Légió Hungária summer camp site.
Several surveillance scandals have erupted in Hungary in recent years, perhaps the most well-known being when it emerged that the Israeli Pegasus spyware may have been installed on the electronic devices of opposition politicians and journalists. Most recently, in early August, reports surfaced regarding traces of another Israeli-origin spyware called Devil's Tongue being used domestically.
As Légió Hungária recalled in their statement, they had mentioned multiple times in their summer camp reports that there were clear signs their community's existence was a thorn in the side of many, and the movement's members were likely not surprised they might be under surveillance. "Now let's get down to specifics," they wrote in their post.
Investigation Underway Against Unknown Perpetrators
Légió Hungária's central summer camp has been hosted annually at an accommodation in Fejér County, Hungary, where the movement had previously been able to conduct their closed events without problems. As they announced, this year things unfolded differently:
"Unfortunately, this year the process was interrupted when we found hidden cameras and microphones in electrical junction boxes and pipes placed in the camp's community area."
The movement reported this to the property owner, who agreed to notify the authorities. Police confiscated all evidence, and an investigation is currently underway against unknown perpetrators. Who exactly put the equipment there and when cannot be said for sure at the moment, but we certainly have our suspicions, which are reinforced by the fact that the accommodation in question has recently hosted meetings of political communities with different ideological backgrounds from our own, whose activities are also a source of concern to many.

Pursuing Compensation Claims
According to the post, given the list of confiscated equipment, they consider it almost impossible that the investigation won't lead to results. "We hope that this will happen as soon as possible and that the perpetrators will be able to explain their motives and be subject to the relevant sanctions under both the Criminal Code and the Civil Code.
On one hand, this could mean imprisonment, and on the other hand, as the number of persons illegally monitored exceeds one hundred, many of them children under the age of 14, the compensation claims of our lawsuit could run into hundreds of millions of HUF," they added.

Légió Hungária has also considered the possibility of contacting other independent guests of the camp who, like them, may have been potential surveillance targets.
"The fact that one of them is an active political party adds both weight to the case and the scale of the scandal," they emphasized.
The movement actually has ideas about who might have placed the equipment and for what purpose, but as they indicated, they hope they're thinking in the wrong direction. According to them, it would be extremely unpleasant if it became public knowledge that civilians had spotted and dismantled an amateur and unlawfully installed special surveillance system.

Those Who Consider Them a Threat to the Country Are Mistaken
In their statement, Légió Hungária once again emphasizes what they have communicated countless times in the past: "Our Movement is an unofficial, friendly community of friends, whose cohesive strength is based on a shared worldview." They explained that their objectives are metapolitical in nature, primarily in the areas of culture and commemoration.
Furthermore, their activities also include many areas of sport, which they rely on primarily for its character-building and community-building qualities. "Those who assume that we are a threat to Hungary are mistaken," concludes the Légió Hungária statement.
Note: Fejér County is located in central Hungary, west of Budapest.
